Eagles Announce Jeff Stoutland’s Replacement Following Legendary Coach’s Surprise Exit
Following a disappointing 11-6 season and Wild Card playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers, the Philadelphia Eagles needed to make major changes. Between the AJ Brown drama, Jalen Hurts’ unwillingness to adjust his game, and struggles to establish the run, the 2025 season was full of disappointment for the defending Super Bowl champions.
One of the most surprising changes they’ve made has been the departure of legendary Offensive Line Coach, Jeff Stoutland. Since joining the Eagles in 2013, he has helped establish one of the game’s most dominant units and has been the mastermind behind their ultra-efficient run game. With Stoutland now out of the picture, who’s up next to replace him?
Who Will Be the Next Eagles’ Offensive Line Coach?
According to NFL Insider Tom Pelissero, the Eagles are hiring former Minnesota Vikings Offensive Line Coach Chris Kuper for the same role.
Importantly, he’d worked closely with new Eagles Offensive Coordinator Sean Mannion, who’d previously been a backup quarterback in Minnesota before most recently becoming the Green Bay Packers Quarterbacks Coach.
On X, Pelissero wrote, ” The Eagles are hiring Chris Kuper as their offensive line coach, sources tell The Insiders. Kuper spent the past four seasons in the same role in Minnesota, where he crossed paths with new Eagles OC Sean Mannion. Now, they’re teaming up in Philly.”
Kuper has NFL experience, playing eight seasons from 2006 to 2013 as an offensive guard for the Denver Broncos after being selected in the 5th round of the 2006 NFL Draft from the University of North Dakota.
He’d go on to start 79 games in the league and was well-respected in the locker room, with his teammates electing him as a co-captain of the offense in 2010. A career-altering broken ankle in 2011 marked the beginning of the end of his playing career, and he eventually retired at the end of the 2013 season.
Kuper would jump right into coaching in 2015, beginning his career as the Offensive Line Coach at Columbine High School in Colorado, not far from where he played professionally.
Soon after, in 2016, he made the jump to the NFL, starting as an Offensive Quality Control Coach and Assistant Offensive Line Coach for the Miami Dolphins before assuming the same role with his former team from 2019 to 2021.
The Vikings saw enough to hire him to lead their offensive line from 2022 on. The offensive line had middle-of-the-pack grades on the PFSN NFL Team OL Impact metrics in 2023 and 2024, before complete offensive dysfunction in 2025 threw everything off.
Kuper will have his hands full trying to revive an Eagles unit that regressed significantly in 2025, thanks in part to injuries to Jordan Mailata, Lane Johnson, and Landon Dickerson, with the latter two considering retirement.
Regardless, Kuper will play a significant role for the Eagles next year, and fans will hope he can help get Saquon Barkley and the running game back on the right track.
