‘How Can That Not Complicate Tyreek Hill’s Potential Return?’ — Insider Casts Doubts on Star WR’s NFL Future After ‘$500,000 Civil Verdict’

Tyreek Hill is still unsigned while recovering from the severe knee injury he suffered in Week 4 of 2025, which included a torn ACL and other ligaments and a dislocated knee.

While Hill is still rebuilding strength, another factor that could potentially delay his free-agent signing is the recent court verdict involving him and his estranged wife, Lakeeta Vaccaro. Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio pointed out that teams will have several complicated factors to consider before signing Hill to their roster.

Mike Florio Raises Questions About Tyreek Hill’s NFL Return

“At a time when agent Drew Rosenhaus continues to talk about the possibility of receiver Tyreek Hill returning to the NFL, there’s been a verdict in a civil battery lawsuit brought by his ex-wife that found him responsible for two counts, along with a $500,000 verdict. How can that not complicate Tyreek Hill’s potential return?” Florio asked.

Although Hill was cleared of eight legal claims, he was found liable for two battery claims and ordered to pay compensatory damages, as Florio noted.

“Beyond the PR issues that would go with signing this guy on the heels of this finding of two counts of battery and a verdict of $500,000, there’s a pending personal conduct policy investigation that will now move forward. Will the NFL place him on paid leave pending the outcome? How many games could he eventually be suspended for?” Florio added.

“These are all factors that need to be considered and taken very serious by any team that’s interested in a player who’s still not 100% after suffering a severe knee injury in Week 4 of the 2025 season. So even though there’s this vague sense that he could be back imminently, it may take a little longer than that for a team to get comfortable with all of the factors that will be at play if Tyreek Hill is added to a team.”

The end of the legal proceedings does not mean Hill is in the clear with the NFL. If he signs with a team, he could still be placed on the commissioner’s exempt list or suspended due to the league’s personal conduct policy, as Florio noted.

NFL policy typically issues a six-game suspension as the baseline for violations involving assault, battery, or domestic violence, with the potential for a longer or shorter penalty depending on aggravating or mitigating circumstances.

Hill’s legal history could also factor into the league’s decision. In 2015, he pleaded guilty to assault and battery involving his then-pregnant girlfriend.

Between the legal issues and injury recovery, Hill’s free agency is certainly a bit complicated.

Will NFL Teams Express Interest in Signing Hill?

If Hill is able to resolve his legal issues and prove that he’s healthy, he should have a number of suitors around the NFL.

Throughout his career, the five-time All-Pro has caught 819 passes for 11,363 yards and 83 touchdowns across 145 games.

The five-time All-Pro was the best wide receiver in the NFL in 2023 according to PFN’s WR Impact Score, as he posted a 93.8 grade after catching 119 passes for 1,799 yards and 13 TDs with the Miami Dolphins.

In recent years, Hill established himself as one of the league’s elite receivers. Before joining the Dolphins, he played a key role in two Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl appearances and won a ring in 2020.

He finished the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory with nine catches for 105 yards.

Several contending teams could look to sign Hill to give their offense a boost, including the Baltimore Ravens, the injury-stricken San Francisco 49ers, and his former team, the Chiefs.

However, before any of those options become realistic, Hill will need to resolve his legal issues and continue recovering from his serious knee injury.
